Frequently Asked Questions

We believe that challenging pets are a blessing; they keep one alert, sharp and open to new solutions when addressing individual needs. The first behavioral examination with a new pet client provides feedback on how the pet may experience the process of teeth cleaning. Certain breeds have particular behavioral tendencies and anatomical differences. For example, short-nosed dogs like pugs need different positioning than others. The pet’s current dental issues could play a role in being face shy. Other factors unique to each pet include temperament, any history of mishandling, or trust and dominance issues. These and other intuitive factors help us understand and get a feel of your pet. Through a gentle and confident approach, and a variety of techniques, we help dogs and cats to relax. Verbal communication is done calmly and assertively by using a tone and language appropriate to the situation. We also interact with your pet through assured, comfortable handling while respecting your pet’s space. Most dogs and cats are a great candidate for teeth cleaning; however, for some this method of cleaning is not suitable.

In most cases, pets are positioned on the technician’s lap on a comfortable blanket with plenty of support to make them feel confident and comfortable. This way we have easy access to every area of the mouth. After easing your pet into this submissive position, the necessary tools with their different sounds, as well as a variety of holds performed by the technician are carefully introduced. Slowly, all teeth are cleaned in a straightforward and compassionate fashion.

Ultimately, our goal is to satisfy all parties – dogs, cats, you, and our team. We want to see happy dogs and cats after the teeth cleaning is finished. Therefore, we do our best to make certain that all are comfortable and relaxed as much as possible, and that we handle your pet in the most appropriate and gentle manner prior, during, and after the cleaning.

No worries, your pet will be in good hands.

Yes, most cats are comfortable with the teeth cleaning process. The initial one-on-one behavioral examination will determine whether your cat is a candidate for this procedure.

Loose teeth indicate that there are dental issues already present and only veterinarians have the insights to deal with such issues. If a loose tooth is discovered during the cleaning, you will be advised to seek veterinarian help in order to explore your pet’s teeth cleaning options and investigate the matter further. That being said, if a pet arrives for a cleaning with a few loose teeth, the cleaning can proceed once the pet owner has been informed of the situation and gives his/her consent.

Generally speaking, it should not take longer than one hour. However, this can vary as individual needs and differences are respected and handled accordingly; thus, resulting in a more extended session.
